RERUN

She was afraid to make a toast – so much pressure to say the right thing! So the thought that she would be the first to SPEAK at the wedding reception absolutely terrified her. She FROZE just thinking about it. On top of that, what if her body decided to REBEL? She had a sudden thought of being in front of the room and starting to RETCH. Her brain responded to that horrifying thought by playing a REMIX of all her worst moments. You know, the kind of mental RERUN that haunts dreams and undermines the day. Enough is enough, she thought. Giving herself a good shake, she got herself up and moving. A good long vigorous walk will, at the very least, push those thoughts aside for a while. And who knows? She might get some ideas while walking.

Listening to the wind, waiting
DOUBT rain will come.
Earth longs for a steady soak.

Woman paints a picture, then writes
without pause. Chocolate SAUCE
on ice cream it seems to her.
Brown paint on a white mound.
Tears fill searching eyes,
what do I long for?

She’s BEGUN, life ceasing
to be one RERUN after another.
